Chandler approves land sale for disputed development

Chandler City Council approved a land sale despite vocal opposition from neighbors regarding a developer’s plan for the parcel.

The council voted 6-1, with Mayor Jay Tibshraeny dissenting, to sell about 31 acres near the southwestern corner of Ocotillo and Gilbert roads to DeRito Partners Development Inc. for about $8.6 million.

Thirteen people spoke during the City Council meeting March 27, expressing concern about the proposed commercial and residential development.

Many said they were under the impression when they bought their homes that a park was planned on the property.
