The Glendale City Council approved plans and waived development fees for a Colorado-based company to build a massive furniture store near Bethany Home Road and Loop 101.
American Furniture Warehouse plans to start construction of its 534,000-square-foot building in March and open by Labor Day in September. The company will initially hire about 300 people to work at its warehouse and store that will stretch about half as long as the Arrowhead Mall.
The council agreed to waive $225,000 in development fees that the city charges to review plans and conduct inspections. However, the firm will still pay at least $500,000 in community impact fees, which are payments based on the assessed impact a company may have on city resources and services, said Brian Friedman, economic development director.
