Peoria leaders approved a key pact for a planned entertainment district near the city’s spring-training complex, a project carefully crafted to avoid possible setbacks, such as those that shadowed the early years of Westgate City Center in neighboring Glendale.
The City Council approved a new ground lease and development agreement with Peoria Sports Park LLC, on March 4.
The development agreement is an important step for Avenue Shoppes at P83, a $90.5 million project slated to be built at the Peoria Sports Complex near 83rd Avenue and Bell Road. The project would include a hotel, shops, restaurants and entertainment venues steps away from the ballpark.
Developers have compared their plans to the Grove, the popular celebritysighting spot near Los Angeles.
The document gives the group, led by Peoria resident Mike Oliver, one year to meet several requirements before moving forward with design and construction.
