Stanton reflects on downtown Phoenix’s gains, challenges

Despite estimated cuts to the city budget of about $30 million, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said efforts to revitalize downtown Phoenix must continue.

“The public investments have already been made,” said Stanton, referencing public funds used to build some of downtown’s most visible projects. “Now, it’s time for the private sector to do their part.”

Stanton highlighted the significant progress of downtown Phoenix during his first “Celebrate Downtown” address Saturday night, but he did not shy away from future challenges.

Stakeholders beyond Phoenix government must make improving downtown Phoenix a priority if Arizona is to make a full economic recovery, he said.
