Two Valley cities have some of the best income equality in the country, according to a new study from NerdWallet.
Surprise boasts the third-best income equality while Gilbert came in at No. 9, according to NerdWallet’s study, which analyzed income equality in cities with populations of 100,000 or more. The finance website determined ratios to signify each city’s income equality. The lower the ratio, the more equal the city is.
NerdWallet pegged Surprise’s income equality ratio at 7.3. The northwest Valley city has a population of 121,276 and median household income of $59,553. That means the city’s highest-earning 20 percent of households earn 7.3 times that of the lowest-earning 20 percent.
