Apple, Tesla tax breaks blocked in Arizona Legislature; others still alive

Logos finalTwo bills could help Tesla Motors if it lands a $5 billion battery plant in Arizona. On the other hand, a proposed tax break on equipment  for Apple’s Mesa manufacturing plant has been blocked in the Legislature, even as two other Apple-related tax bills head toward final votes.

Senate Bill 1412, which would permit companies paying the lower 5 percent state property tax rate to write off their equipment and machinery faster, has been stopped in its tracks. Companies such as Apple and Intel Corp. pay the 5 percent rate while most Arizona businesses pay a higher 19.5 percent rate.
