Paradise Valley is seeing a spike in building permits this year compared with last year.
The first three months of 2014 saw a 69 percent jump in building permits compared with the same time in 2013, according to numbers reviewed by The Arizona Republic.
The numbers take into account new homes, pools, remodels or additions, and a miscellaneous category, which includes permits ranging from fences and site walls, BBQs and fire pits to water fountains, tennis and basketball courts, as well as solar systems.
Building Safety Manager Robert Lee said that building-permit requests have been increasing over the past three years.
