Church’s proximity to proposed marijuana dispensary discussed at neighborhood meeting

Neighbors who live and work near a proposed medical-marijuana dispensary met last week with Mesa Vice Mayor Alex Finter to voice their concerns in part about its proximity to a church.

They met March 26 inside the New Testament Christian Church, 6330 E. Main St. Suites 4 and 6, which is in a strip mall separated by parking lots from the proposed dispensary at 64th Street and Main.

“There are some setbacks – like 1,200 feet – from different uses. That question has come up and we’re going to ask staff to look into it and see all of the particulars,” Mr. Finter said at the informal neighborhood meeting.

City of Mesa Ordinance 5025 calls for a separation of 1,200 feet for medical-marijuana dispensaries from churches/places of worship, parks, libraries and K-12 schools, according to the city of Mesa website.
