Members of the public and affected industries will be able to give their say over proposed new development impact fees that could go into effect at the beginning of August. The meeting will be held April 10 at 6 p.m. at the city council chambers.
Impact fees, which are charged to developers who construct new buildings in town, provide some financial assistance for the city’s infrastructure that is needed to accommodate the growth. In Coolidge, this includes funds for streets, fire, parks, police and library.
All of this follows a very strict code under Arizona Revised Statute 9-463.05. The statute was significantly amended in 2011 to provide greater transparency when it comes to how the fees are established and where they go, including requiring cities to create an infrastructure improvement plan.
