Meritage Homes earnings climb in first quarter

Scottsdale-based Meritage Homes Corp. reported an increase in earnings and sales during the first quarter due to growth in its Texas and southeastern U.S. operations.

The homebuilder reported revenue of $408.4 million for the period ended March 30, a 21.4 percent increase from last year’s first-quarter results. Net earnings increased $13.3 million for the first quarter to $25.4 million. That was up from $12 million in the first quarter of 2013. Per share, Meritage earned 62 cents, up 94 percent from 32 cents per share a year ago.
