The Peoria City Council this week discussed multiple divisive proposed amendments to its city charter, ultimately moving one forward that would make it easier to place an item on the council agenda if the mayor has rejected it.
The proposal would reduce the number of council members — to three from four — required to place an item on an agenda. It would address concerns that council members could violate the Arizona Open Meeting Law trying to garner support for a particular item.
The council will discuss the proposal at a future meeting and vote whether to send it to a public vote. If voters approve the amendment, it would change the city’s charter, the city’s governing document similar to a constitution.
