PhoenixMart developer AZ Sourcing is expected to pitch in about $4.6 million for a sewer line extension to Casa Grande’s east side, the Casa Grande City Council learned Monday evening.
The line would likely run under Interstate 10, connecting with the 585-acre PhoenixMart site off Florence Boulevard, east of Overfield Road.
The exact route for the line hasn’t been decided, but Deputy City Manager Larry Rains said preferred routes would run along Florence Boulevard or Kortsen Road.
The city of Casa Grande is in the final stages of negotiation with the developer regarding extending the sewer lines to the planned PhoenixMart site, Rains said. An official agreement is expected to be presented to the city council on May 5.
Preliminary estimates of the project put the price at about $10 million, Rains said. AZ Sourcing’s contribution would cover a portion of those costs and Rains said other developers could sign on.
“Two developments, one that would be closer to the AZ Sourcing 585 and one that would (also) be on the east side of Interstate 10, have expressed fair interest in at least evaluating the siting of the line and potentially participating,” Rains said.
Current sewer users probably won’t pay for the expansion, said Rains.
As well as developer contributions, Rains said additional funding for the project would likely come from impact fees and construction taxes.
