The value of preserving 83 acres of land in the heart of Prescott’s Granite Dells did not appear to be in question Tuesday.
After more than an hour and a half of discussion Tuesday, the Prescott City Council unanimously agreed to work toward that goal. In turn, each council member praised the virtues of the scenic Dells area northeast of Prescott.
What was up for debate, however, was the level of participation Prescott should have in the buying the land, which is being offered to the city for $4 million.
Ultimately, the council settled on pledging the $500,000 that is currently earmarked for open space in the city’s budget. Although another $500,000 is being contemplated for open space in the city’s coming fiscal-year budget, council members stopped short of committing that money as well.
