Elon Musk has been short on the details, but one thing the Tesla Motors Inc. founder has said he wants to see at his planned Gigafactory is power from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
New Mexico is competing with Arizona, Texas and Nevada for the battery plant, and all four states have some of the highest renewable-energy goals in the nation. Specifically, they all have renewable portfolio standards they must meet for electricity generation.
New Mexico’s standards are much stronger than Arizona’s and Texas’, and they encourage more renewables sooner than Nevada’s.
