Both were a bit tentative, not quite sure what to do next.
The student and the yearling stood next to each other. They started to walk together slowly beside the corrals before picking up a little speed.
“You have to trot with him!” the teacher called out. “If you’re not trotting, why does she need to trot?”
Finally, student Kimberly Gonzales and the unnamed yearling worked up to a few seconds of awkward trotting, with dust flying around them both.
Gonzales and her classmates from Scottsdale Community College spent a recent morning with a group of young horses, with everyone learning how to turn and trot, survive a hose bath and, most of all, respect one another.
