Lawmakers in Tusayan have approved a general plan that drew opposition for not specifying a water source for a major development.
AP reports the vote by the town council came earlier this week.
Town manager Will Wright has said that the general plan isn’t meant to go into detail about water sources. Instead, it’s a 10-year wish list of sorts for recreation, public services, transportation and development.
Officials at the Grand Canyon had raised concerns that development cited in the general plan would quadruple the town’s use of water over the next decade.
The Italian company proposing a dude ranch, high-end boutiques, five-star hotels, hundreds of homes and a high-density shopping area says no decision has been made on a water source.
Tusayan lies just outside the Grand Canyon’s South Rim entrance.
