Interior Secretary announces solar project during Phoenix visit

Renewable energy projects create vast economic opportunities for Native American tribes, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said during a Wednesday stop in Phoenix.

Speaking at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Jewell announced $738,000 in grants to nine tribes — two in Arizona — to help them develop energy industries.

“Our president has made very clear he is interested in energy development across the board,” Jewell said. “A good part of that is renewable energy.”
