Of the three potential routes being considered by the Arizona Department of Transportation for a possible commuter rail service, the line that passes through Casa Grande, also known as the “Green Alternative,” is so far not the most popular.
“Based on the information we have available at this time, it does not seem prudent to recommend the green alternative as our preferred route,” ADOT representative Michael Kies told the Casa Grande City Council on Monday.
After years of studying potential routes for a possible high-speed Tucson-to-Phoenix rail service and seeking public input, ADOT narrowed its list of possible train lines to three, including the route through Casa Grande.
Public comments regarding the routes will be accepted through May 31.
