No movement on rooftop solar leasing tax issue

Solar leasing companies continue to hope that the Arizona Department of Revenue will reverse its interpretation of state law that will require the solar companies, or their customers, to pay property taxes on the rooftop installations they have in Arizona.

Many of the leases have clauses that will pass the taxes on to customers, though companies such as SolarCity Corp. have said they are determined not to do that.

The solar companies began pushing for Gov. Jan Brewer to urge the Department of Revenue to reverse its thinking on the issue. It doesn’t seem to be effective so far.

We asked Sean Laux, the legislative liaison for the DOR, how those conversations with the governor worked out.
