Gabrielle Giffords was shot by a fellow Democrat, according to Gary Kiehne, who is running for Congress in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.
Kiehne, a Springerville rancher, told a 60-member audience in a Republican debate in Florence last Saturday mass shootings in America are committed by Democrats. He said “99 percent of (mass shootings) have been by Democrats pulling their guns out and shooting people.”
As is often the case when blasphemous comments are made, apologies come too late and have little effect in softening the blow of harsh words.
Perhaps topping Kiehne’s remark in stupidity comes comments by Florida State Representative Charles Van Zant about the controversial Common Core education standards.
Van Zant, speaking at the “Operation Education Conference” in Orlando, warned that officials implementing Common Core in Florida are “promoting as hard as they can any youth that is interested in the LGBT agenda.”
Their aim, Van Zant warned, was to “attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can.” He then apologized to the crowd for having to be the bearer of bad news. “I really hate to bring you that news,” the Florida Republican said, “but you need to know.”
“These people, that will now receive $220 million from the state of Florida unless this is stopped, will promote double-mindedness in state education and attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can. I’m sorry to report that to you,” Van Zant said.
What could be worse than these two politicians mouthing off in a society trying to overcome bias, prejudice and violence? Electing them.
