A Referendum Application was filed Feb. 26 with the Peoria City Clerk’s Office in opposition to an adopted rezoning for land between 75th and 77th avenues and north and south of Pinnacle Peak Road from Single Family Residential and Suburban Ranch to a Planned Area Development.
The term “referendum” is defined as the process by which a measure passed by council is submitted to the voters.
Petition signatures were submitted to the city clerk’s office March 26.
Staff in the city clerk’s office have completed the initial signature review and submitted a random sample of 150 signatures for further verification by the Maricopa County Recorder. The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office has 15 days to complete its review and then the city clerk’s office will determine if there are enough valid signatures to place the item on the Aug. 26 Primary Election ballot. A total of 2,434 valid petition signatures are required to place a referendum on the ballot.
