Rose Law Group Equine Attorney and Cave Creek Vice Mayor Adam Trenk praises new racing law

HorseRacing_shutterstock_185838311-502x162A bill Gov. designed to permit telephone betting at horse and dog racing tracks in the state has drawn the praise of Rose Law Group Rose Law Group Equine Attorney and Cave Creek Vice Mayor Adam Trenk.

The bill, signed Monday by Gov. Jan Brewer makes it legal in Arizona to bet via telephone and aims to help struggling race tracks that have seen their popularity plummet as Internet gambling and casinos have taken become popular.

“By increasing the accessibility of wagering, this bill will hopefully lead to greater interest in the sport,” Trenk said. “In addition, the bill makes the public disclosure of racing related injuries and deaths mandatory, a move that could help ensure animal welfare.”

Telephone betting is already legal in other states.

The bill also would have taken $1.2 million from the state’s unclaimed property fund and used it fund racing at county fairs and to a state breeder’s award fund.
