Taxpayers get firsthand perusal of Magma Dam

Like many of his fellow taxpayers who find themselves residing in the Magma Flood Control District, Anthem resident Don Goveia wanted to see for himself why his property taxes were going up.

So he and 20 of his neighbors took the district up on an invitation for a firsthand look at how their tax dollars are being spent on Magma Dam last Wednesday.

“I wanted to see, for the amount of taxes that we’re going to be assessed, what we’re getting for it, and if it’s a good value for what we’re being taxed,” Goveia, 72, said. “That’s my main concern. I’m interested in the safety of the community too. I want to make sure we get enough bang for the buck.”
