Allure of homeownership slumps amid worries of continued crisis

While home prices have stopped falling, the vast majority of Americans still believe the housing crisis isn’t over, according to a wide-ranging survey on housing attitudes released Tuesday.

The survey, conducted for the MacArthur Foundation by Hart Research Associates, showed 70% of respondents believe the country is still in the middle of the housing crisis, down from 77% last year. That includes 19% of respondents who believe the worst is yet to come, a level that wasn’t changed from last year.

One in four respondents said they believe the housing crisis was pretty much over, up from one in five last year.
