There’s nothing like a wildfire breaking out three hours before the polls close to dampen turnout on Election Day.
Except the Slide fire that started on May 20 was in Sedona, and the election in question — a regional plan vote — was in Flagstaff and all by mail.
In other words, the voter participation rate of just 25 percent can’t be blamed on a sudden emergency.
On the other hand, the fact that 75 percent of those voting supported the plan is also independent of any deadline disruption.
