Nick Sheppard just completed his first year at Sequoia Pathway Academy as a physical education teacher.
You could say he’s pretty qualified: Sheppard was a college standout who graduated from Pepperdine University in 2000 and went on to briefly play with a pair of teams in the NBA – the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers – before playing in international basketball leagues.
When he finally settled down in Maricopa three years ago, Sheppard knew he wanted to make a difference.
