The Superior Chamber of Commerce invited the contractor for the Magma Hotel to its May meeting.
Keith Roed explained that construction is going well.
The plans for the hotel include 21 guest rooms with larger suites on the bottom floor, a full service restaurant, bar and an observation deck. They are also planning on using the old jail behind the hotel for offices and a small museum. The main lobby will be restored to its original ambiance.
An official opening date has not been announced. Last week, the stucco was applied and crews continue to work five to six days a week. Originally the developer anticipated a 2014 opening and it appears that the hotel may have its first guests before the end of the year.
