PRESCOTT VALLEY, Arizona – When the Taylor family moved into the Granville development in early June, the population of Prescott Valley increased – again.
“Prescott Valley’s population is bigger than Pres-cott’s,” boasted Matt Taylor, the new resident who is also a real estate agent. (He doesn’t sell Granville homes.)
After the 2010 Census, Prescott’s population was 39,843, and Prescott Valley was right behind at 38,822. According to the Arizona Office of Employment and Population Statistics from July 2013, Prescott’s population was 39,888, with Prescott Valley just behind at 39,667.
Though his figures are unofficial, Prescott Valley’s Community Development Director Richard Parker insists that “Prescott Valley is the population center of North Central Arizona.
“We are larger than Prescott. All roads run through Prescott Valley, and that was done by design.”
Parker keeps track of the town’s population using building permits, vacancy rates and other local data. He says Prescott Valley’s population has hit the 40,000 mark – and then some.
“I think we’re at 45,500 for Prescott Valley,” Parker said.
