What is going to happen with the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, now that the law won’t let us pay for it?
Will the bond holders confiscate their real estate? Change the locks? And what about all those lovely new spring-training stadiums? Shall we sell them to the Grapefruit League in Florida?
I really don’t know the answers to those questions. But I do know that the funding source that pays for all the stadiums we have built in Maricopa County since the passage of Proposition 302 in 2000 has been ruled unconstitutional. The Arizona constitution says that all tax money levied on things related to cars, including car rentals, has to be used on highways. No getting around it.
