Paradise Valley politics makes for strange bedfellows

In all elections — local, statewide or national — political endorsements and contributions are makeshift accolades typically sought by incumbents and challengers alike to bolster his or her chances of attaining elected office.

For those who follow local politics the council candidacy of Maria Syms followed by the subsequent endorsement of her campaign from Vice Mayor Michael Collins might have come as a surprise.

Two years ago, Ms. Syms ran for mayor against Scott LeMarr. The campaign was highly combative and at times downright nasty — creating a negative political perception never seen in the Town of Paradise Valley.
