‘Professor Commons’ and the future of building design

Part 2 in a 3-part series about College Avenue Commons

“This may be the first time that architects and contractors are going to be able to know whether or not a building they designed works as it’s supposed to,” said Arizona State University project manager Bruce Jensen. “This building is loaded with sensors that measure temperature and light on the skin and in the rooms. We have our energy calculations, now we have actual real-time data to see if those are correct.”

That building is College Avenue Commons at Seventh Street and College Avenue on the Tempe campus.

If a college for the next generation of construction leaders is going to be in a state-of-the-art building, its home ought to be in a building that does some of the teaching.
