A church steeple that exceeds the city’s 35-foot-high height limit apparently does not amount to a “hardship” in the eyes of the Prescott Board of Adjustment.

In a unanimous vote on Thursday, the seven board members rejected a request by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) for a variance to allow a 67-foot-high steeple on its new church planned near the intersection of Rosser Street and Blooming Hills Drive.

At the same time, the board granted the church’s request to exceed the building-size limit by about 4,500 square feet, with a number of conditions.
