Ryan Van Velzer at The Arizona Republic took a look at where we came from, state by state.
If you are, according to a new census data project from the New York Times, you’re in the minority. (Although, this probably isn’t news to anyone who has ever talked to their neighbors.)
Van Velzer reports the project reminds us just how many Arizonans were born somewhere else with a chart documenting state migration patterns from 1900 to 2012.
What they found probably isn’t all that surprising if you’ve gone to Cubs spring training or listened to the Canadian national anthem sung before a Coyotes game.
In 2012, only 38 percent of Arizonans were natives.
Meanwhile, 15 percent of Arizona residents were born outside the U.S. in 2012, down about 10 percent from 1900.
