States such as Texas, California and Nevada are adding construction, even as Arizona is losing them.
Arizona has lost 5,900 construction jobs over the past 12 months — the second most among U.S. states.
The Association of General Contractors reports Arizona has the second highest number of losses behind only New Jersey, which lost 8,900 jobs, according to AGC.
Arizona lost 4.8 percent of its construction jobs in the 12-month time frame. That percentage is fourth worst among states behind New Jersey, Mississippi and West Virginia.
At the other end of the scale, Nevada’s construction industry has grown 13.4 percent since July 2013. Florida gained the most construction jobs over the 12-month time frame with 40,600 new positions.
Arizona had 117,800 construction jobs in July. That is down 800 jobs from June and down from 123,700 jobs in July 2013, according to the industry group. Thirty-nine states added jobs over the 12-mont period compared with 11, including Arizona, shedding jobs.
