Candidates espouse reasons why they want serve on the Queen Creek Town Council

Queen Creek residents vying for a spot on the town council addressed issues impacting the community during a Meet the Candidates night July 30.

About 50 people attended the event, which was presented by the Queen Creek/San Tan Valley Independent newspaper and hosted by Communiversity@Queen Creek, 21740 S. Ellsworth Road. Moderating the event was Wendy Miller, news editor for the Independent.

Topics ranged from rezoning land from employment to residential and attracting new businesses to the possibilities of creating a north/south thoroughfare between Ironwood and Ellsworth roads and a municipal police force.

Six of the eight candidates running for three open spots on the council participated. They were: Lanny Brown, Jason Gad, Dawn Oliphant, Kyle Robinson, Emilena Turley and Julia Wheatley.
