The Arizona Republic reports the Buckeye City Council has sidestepped a city ordinance requiring top administrators to live in the city, indefinitely waiving the requirement for City Manager Stephen Cleveland at a meeting Aug. 5.
According to a Buckeye ordinance, city managers, assistant city managers and department directors appointed as regular full- or part-time employees must live in Buckeye or move there within six months of their appointments.
Buckeye Mayor Jackie Meck said Cleveland is not a full-time employee, but rather a contract employee, so the ordinance does not apply to him. Cleveland lives in Goodyear.
