A group calling itself Glendale Citizens for Voice and Choice held a press conference Friday afternoon to announce they had gathered 13,000 signatures protesting the Glendale City Council’s handling of the Tohono O’Odham casino, saying the council gave the casino its blessing without notice to the citizenry.
The gathering took place across the street from Glendale City Hall at noon Friday, after which the boxes of signatures were taken to city hall to be presented. Timothy Schwartz, spokesman for the group, said they began gathering signatures one month ago, the night the city council voted 4-3 to support the casino.
“We went into action right away,” he said. “People are saying they want to have a voice. The Cardinals stadium was passed without the voters. The Coyotes arena was done without the voters. This has to stop.”
