Avondale city councilman suspends campaign

Avondale City Councilman Charles Vierhout has dropped his reelection bid and has ceded the race to Lorenzo Sierra, who garnered more votesin the Aug. 26 primary election.

While Vierhout’s name will still appear on the Nov. 4 general election ballot, he is asking residents to vote for Sierra.

Vierhout, 52, cited personal reasons for dropping out of the race.
