Tesla has chosen Nevada for its $5 billion factory to make batteries for its electric cars, according to news outlets CNBC, The Associated Press and the Wall Street Journal.
They attribute the information to unnamed sources.
But Tesla and Gov. Brian Sandoval say they will make a major announcement on Thursday.
The Associated Press reported that Nevada beat out four other states for the project and said work will soon resume at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County would soon resume.
Sandoval’s office said only that the governor will make a “major economic development announcement” Thursday afternoon. A Tesla spokesman says company representatives will be at the Capitol for the announcement.
Lance Gilman, developer of Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center where Tesla did preparation work earlier this summer for possible gigafactory site, declined to disclose specifics on Thursday’s press conference in Carson City.
But Gilman did say he has been invited to the event and added, “I believe we’ll get a very positive announcement of some kind.”
California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico were other finalists.
