Year over year, Arizona construction continues to show gains in activity. The most recent sales tax data from the Arizona Department of Revenue is the most accurate indicator of current construction activity we can find. They collect and analyze data from sales tax returns, and since construction is a taxable activity in Arizona, voila: we have a good reliable resource.
This is by far my favorite report to use to tell the true level of activity in the state.
Numbers don’t lie: there has been year-over-year growth in construction activity since January 2013. That’s 17 months of continuous increases when comparing each month’s data to the same month in the previous year (May 2014 is the most recent report). Statewide, the industry pumps out over $11B in economic activity.
