Ducey, the state treasurer, has long said that Brewer and lawmakers have “done what they’ve done” when asked to weigh in on the 2013 legislation that has been criticized by many Republicans as enacting Obamacare in Arizona. But Ducey has generally steered clear of hypothetical questions about what he would do if GOP lawmakers who are still steaming about the expansion manage to push a repeal through the Legislature once Brewer is no longer there to protect her legacy.
During a debate Monday aired on “Arizona Horizon,” Ducey said he’s not a fan of the expansion of government, and has said in the past that he opposed the expansion in part because questions over whether the federal government would hold up its funding commitment in the long term. However, Ducey noted that Arizona has a three-year commitment for the increased funding from the feds.
“Because we do have a guarantee from the federal government, I think that we would not want to do that,” Ducey said of a possible repeal.
