The Glendale City Council approved a settlement agreement with Lamar Central Outdoor LLC on the reimbursement of compensation from the use of two digital billboards along the Loop 101 Freeway between Bethany Home Road and Orangewood Avenue.
The city and Lamar disagreed on the interpretation of the contract provisions related to compensation and what the city should be receiving. The city believed that the billboard operator was to pay three types of revenue to the city; a one-time initial $500,000 business royalty; an on-going annual royalty based on a percentage of total revenue and ongoing monthly rent. Under the city’s interpretation, the annual royalty and monthly rent were to be calculated separately. Lamar interpreted the provisions to allow rent as an offset to the annual royalty.
