Glendale rejects casino referendum attempt, lawsuit filed

After turning in nearly 15,000 signatures to get two referendums onto the ballot to allow voters to decide if a casino should be built within Glendale, the No More Bad Deals for Glendale political committee had those signatures rejected by the city clerk.

The group filed a lawsuit against the city Sept. 19 to force a ballot measure. The city voted 4-3 in favor of supporting the casino project at its Aug. 12 meeting.

“We did in fact file a lawsuit on (Sept.9),” spokesman for No More Bad Deals for Glendale Gary Hirsch said. “A 4-3 vote on the casino showed the city abruptly abandoned their opposition to the casino and we believe the voters should have a chance to decide this issue.”
