Regarding the letter by Mesa Mayor Alex Finter, “We must strike the right balance for Indian gaming in the Valley,” (Opinions, Aug. 29):
Recently, I had the pleasure of participating in the groundbreaking of the West Valley Resort and Casino, a $400 million economic investment that is already bringing jobs and development interest from other private developers to Glendale and the West Valley. As I scanned the room at the ceremony on newly designated tribal land, I saw leaders from Peoria, Tolleson, Surprise, El Mirage, Phoenix, the Tohono O’odham Nation and Glendale. This demonstration of regional cooperation hasn’t occurred since the coalition to attract the Arizona Cardinals’ Stadium.
