It comes as no surprise that, according to Business Insider’s breakdown of U.S. Census Bureau data, the most affluent town in Arizona is Paradise Valley, reports Michael Clancy, The Arizona Republic.
The enclave in the central Phoenix area has a median household income of $139,524, the Census Bureau says.
If the number of just less than $140,000 seems low for a place like Paradise Valley, consider that median income refers to active wage earning, not investments, inheritances or other sources of income
Carefree could be on the Top 50 list, too, but the survey restricts itself to the top town in each state, based on the 2008-12 American Community Survey. Carefree had a median income of $78,487.
The most affluent cities are Hidden Hills, Calif., a town north of Malibu, between Thousand Oaks and Los Angeles, and Chevy Chase, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C. Both had median household incomes in excess of $250,000.
Scottsdale came in with a median household income of $72,163, trailing Litchfield Park at $77,321 and Cave Creek at $75,458. Sedona, another notably wealthy area, was at $51,430. The Village of Oak Creek, south of Sedona, was at $62,556.
