Joe “Solar Man” Hui filed today to be an official write-in candidate for the Arizona Corporation Commission.
He unsuccessfully tried to get Solar Man, his alter ego, on the ballot as his middle name.
The Arizona State University professor emeritus, Monarch Power Corp. CEO and inventor said he’s concerned about “dark money” and the recent rulings that are “killing rooftop solar.”
“I’m running because I know this technology and can rely on innovations for clean water and sustainable energy,” Hui told me today. “I also want to put regulations on polluters and big corporations.”
The ACC last year imposed an extra $5 fee per month on APS customers’ bills to help offset costs of rooftop solar, while Arizona Public Service Co. was proposing a hike of $50 to $100.
Another rate increase battle is expected next year, Hui said.
