Surprise mayor irked by lack of progress on City Center development

Mayor Sharon Wolcott said the city and its development partners have not been on the same page when it comes to projects that will fill in the planned City Center.

Wolcott told a gathering of residents in Sun City Grand Thursday night she remains committed to a mix of projects that will create a vibrant and diverse downtown that will draw residents and visitors alike to that area.

In the first of three sessions dubbed Community Conversations designed to update constituents on a range of issues before Surprise officials, Wolcott told 40 residents at Cimarron Recreation Center she remains ‘sharply focused on a 4-year university’ as one of the projects within the vacant land surrounding City Hall now ready for developers thanks to last year’s lifting of deed restrictions that limited the area to essentially daytime businesses.
