Built in a fairly remote site in northwest Surprise north of the intersection of 163rd and Grand avenues, the Asante development has become even more isolated through happenstance.
Planned by Lennar as an upscale, 14,000-home city-within-a-city complete with retail centers — a la Vistancia or Desert Ridge — Asante is little more than a small neighborhood 10 years after its plans were formalized.
Only 58 of the planned homes were built between 2008 and 2011. After years of stagnation and rumors, the possibility of resuming construction were discussed at a resident block party earlier this month.
