Arizona State University took a big step forward Wednesday in the development of a 330-acre area south of Tempe Town Lake that the university wants to transform into an athletic, commercial and residential district.
University officials announced the selection of the California-based Catellus Development Corp., as master developer for the area, known as the ASU Athletic Facilities District. The land, called “the district,” is on the north end of the Tempe campus and now home to primarily parking lots and a golf course.
University officials envision world-class athletic facilities surrounded by residential, office and retail.
