Microbreweries are easily spotted across metro Phoenix by their towering grain bins, usually brandishing the establishment’s logo.
However, Scottsdale’s zoning ordinance prohibits these grain bins unless they are concealed by some sort of screening. And that requirement could prevent Scottsdale master brewer Steve McFate from opening a microbrewery in the McDowell Road corridor.
Nearly two years ago, McFate opened his first location, Fate Brewing Co., on Shea Boulevard near Scottsdale Road. The current location is small and he is able to bring in bags of grain for the limited brewing he does there.
